For the Great Falls Detachment 688

Ways To Get Involved

We have an SOS breakfast or lunch where members and their spouses get together and socialize over a meal at various restaurants several times during the year. Generally they are held the third Saturday of the month; time and location announced at the meeting and published in the newsletter.

There is a great variety of ways you may get involved and you will be asked to do them all, however we understand you can only do what you can do. In this little packet you will find a list of activities, events and projects our Detachment is involved with.

Our honor guard provides military honors for deceased veterans from all branches and marches in parades and other civic activities. Practices are the third Thursday of the month at the Black Eagle Community Center.  2332 Smelter Ave. NE, Black Eagle. We meet at 1830 hours (6:30) for a one hour practice.

Membership Activities on Behalf of Detachment

  • Donations to Pondera County Search & Rescue
  • Food Donations to Veterans Center
  • Volunteer at hospices and nursing homes
  • Assist disabled veterans get to appointments and meetings

Many of our members volunteer to help the Toys for Tots Coordinator by collecting toys from the T4T boxes around central Montana and by standing duty at the mall tables to accept donations.

At Eagle Scout award presentations several of our members are regulars who attend to honor the Eagle Scout for his achievements.

During the two to three days of the Vets for Vets Stand Down our Detachment provides security and escort Veterans and their family members through the information stations of the Stand Down.

Other members do volunteer work through the Veteran’s Administration Volunteer Services office at Fort Harrison. They provide rides to and from Fort Harrison, deliver health and beauty essentials to the hospital, and deliver books and cookies to the VAVS office to be distributed to the patients. These are only a few ways our members help the VAVS office.
